The Jewelry Trade Center — JTC — is the tower on Silom Road in Bang Rak, Bangkok that houses the city’s gemstone trade: dealer offices, cutting and treatment businesses, gemological labs and a ground-floor trading area, stacked floor on floor in one building.

If you are sourcing coloured stone in Bangkok, JTC is where most of the day happens. Dealers keep offices upstairs and parcels in safes; the lower floors are where stones get shown, compared and argued over. Very little of it is on a website.

02Get to the right floor, not the right buildingJTC is not one market — it is many separate businesses with different specialities. A ruby specialist on one floor cannot help you with paraiba on another.
03Arrive introducedThe trade runs on who vouches for you. Introduced buyers are shown the parcels that never reach the counter; walk-ins are shown what is convenient.
04See the stone in daylightAsk to look outside the office lighting, and ask what the stone has been through — heat, oil, filling. A dealer who answers plainly is the one to keep.
05Get the treatment status in writingFor anything at value, a report from a recognised lab. Several labs sit in the same district, and turnaround is usually days, not weeks.
06Negotiate per carat, not per stoneThe trade quotes per carat. Comparing two parcels on total price tells you nothing until you convert both.
07Settle and ship properlyAgree who handles export paperwork and insured shipping before money moves, not after.
